Description: So how do you build a community around your favourite game?
The Crokinole UK team have done exactly that, and it’s thriving and now there’s a podcast – Hogan’s Alley – and an International Crokinole Day thanks to them.
Crokinole is more than just flicking discs on a board – it’s been a catalyst for building connection, joy, and a vibrant community. In this session, we’ll walk you through how a shared passion for any game can be used to build a thriving community of players at a local level or across the country.
We’ll cover:
- How to introduce people to your game
- Practical steps for organising inclusive, low-barrier events on a small and larger scale
- Mistakes we made (so you don’t have to)
- Listening to your community
- Tools, resources, and practical elements that helped turn this into an active, sustainable community.
Audience Takeaways:
- A real-world case study of community growth through Crokinole
- Tips for getting people engaged and coming back
- How to maintain momentum over time (importance of support in numbers)
- Encouragement that you don’t need to be an expert – just passionate
