Tabletop Games and Meta-Skills!
Welcome!
Since 2018, Tabletop Scotland has hosted an annual convention which celebrates the hobby of tabletop games.
For our 2026 convention we are looking to spotlight the educational benefits of the games we play for fun. We are going to do that by helping educators understand through examples that these games are fantastic tools to develop meta-skills.
If you are interested in joining us as we explore the relationships between meta-skills and tabletop games at this year’s convention please fill out the form below. Closing date for registering interest is Friday 17th July 2026.
What is the plan?
On the Friday of the convention between 14:00 and 16:00 we are hosting a Session 0 event titled “How do tabletop games enable meta-skills development?”
This educator focused session explores how tabletop game design, and the associated play experience, interfaces with meta-skills development.
On the Friday of the convention between 18:00 and 20:00 we are hosting an event where we mapping systems and stories to meta skills in real time.
An interactive series of “sprint chats”* where the translation between tabletop games and meta-skills is demonstrated in groups.
*Think speed dating but about tabletop games and meta-skills!
The Educator Zone is happening on all three days of the convention.
This will enable educators to interact with attendees, game creatives and each other on how these games are not just for fun, but are fantastic tools for developing meta-skills.
