The imposing ruin just past the edge of town is a labyrinthine fortress which has long been sealed. Occasionally looters break in, but few return and those that do have nothing good to report. It seems the original occupants died centuries past and it has since been not a living space, but a tomb. This grim history has lent it the title The Catacombs of Dread.
Your adventuring group had an argument last night, debating the risk and reward of exploring the ruin. One of your allies stormed off and went inside alone. Tempers have cooled, and your ally has not returned, and now your group is faced with the daunting task of going in and discovering their fate.
